22nd October - Language Modification
Making texts accessible for deaf and deafblind people requires a lot of training and practise. This workshop will be a brief introduction to language modification. We will consider:
- what makes written English problematic
- strategies for making written English more accessible
- how to practise modifying language
12th November - Working with sign language users
CSWs work with students with various communication requirements. This workshop will focus on learners who are BSL users, and how CSWs can use a range of strategies to ensure Deaf people’s access to formal and informal learning. This will be a discussion-based workshop with some practical activities, conducted in a supportive and relaxed environment.
10th December - Notetaking for Deaf learners
Whether you’re new to the field or an experienced CSW, this workshop will provide a space for you to:
- consider a range of note-taking techniques
- discuss dilemmas
- discover ways to enhance your skills
